Butler Farm offers both private riding lessons and Pony Camps.

Private Riding Lessons: One hour private riding lessons include basic horsemanship; grooming, tacking up, riding, bathing, etc. Lessons are $50/hour. Children 3yrs and up

Pony Camp: Pony Camp is a great experience for beginners or experienced kids, from the ages of 4-15. This is a fun and education program which is all horsemanship (no crafts). Campers will have a private riding lesson in the morning and depending on the schedule there is the possibility of another riding lesson in the afternoon.

A pony or horse and stall is assigned to each camper. Campers are responsible for everything regarding that pony/horse and stall including; grooming, mucking, feeding etc. Campers will also learn about parts of the horse, lameness, horse colors and breeds, training braiding, show braids, mane pulling, hoof care, etc.


Instructors:

Mona Kanciper Butler: Mona has over 20 years of experience in the horse industry. In 1998 Mona founded New York Rescue Corporation, a charity the helps ex-racehorses and other needy and abused horses find new homes. Mona has functioned as President of NYHR since its inception and is very involved with the nationwide rescue of horses in need. Mona manages Butler Farm and teaches private riding lessons.

Fran Horn: Fran has a B.S. in Pre-Veterinarian Science from the University of Kentucky. She has been teaching Vocational Ed Horse Science and Management for High School students since 1977 and has been running summer riding programs since 1976. Fran currently competes in combined training and dressage. Fran also teaches private riding lessons and coaches her students at shows.

2008 Rates

  • 5 day camps $325
  • There is a 10% discount for registering for multiple weeks and a 10% sibling discount.


What does your camper need to bring/wear?

  • Lunch/Snack/Drink
  • Jeans or riding pants and a T-shirt
  • NO shorts or shirts with strings or other loose attachments.
  • Paddock boots or riding boots are preferred. A show with a heel is required.
  • Approved riding helmet. We will provide campers without appropriate headgear with SEI /ASTM approved helmets. It is strongly encouraged that campers have their own helmets.
